Creating the Bioname company brand and updating the website

What were the goals of the employment?

During the employment, the goal was to update the company's image and create its own brand for the company. This meant making a marketing plan (and the accompanying mapping) and creating graphic guidelines, according to the company's already existing color and logo attributes, but also correcting them. During the employment relationship, the possibility of updating these elements related to the logo was also explored, but in the end the old logo and color were kept. In addition, during my employment I created different material for the company's use, from visual to text.

How I executed my work: More detailed description of the work and opening of the content

From the beginning of the employment, my main task was to update the company's website. Before updating the website, I had to get to know the company and its current brand better and, if necessary, develop a more consistent visual image.

So I updated the company's WordPress homepage using the marketing plan I made at the beginning of the employment and the visual elements I created. I mainly updated the website using WordPress blocks, but I implemented some sections using html code in order to achieve the desired style for the sections of the pages.

You can see more elements related to the company's look in the graphic design portfolio and read more about the whole in the concept design portfolio.

I also made some visual design, content creating and UI design that is not yet shown at the company site but might be used in some way in the future.

UI Flow for XYZ company's
second hand web store

This project is concept and practice work, which I did at the turn of 2022-2023. The assignment was preliminary work as part of a job application. In the assignment, the information about the seller and the sales situation was offered and based on this I designed the work in a maximum of four hours, UI wireframes and a concept for the appearance of the second-hand online store of the invented Nordic furniture company.

About the look and image of the company

  • a timeless design.

  • high quality materials.

  • sustainability.

A short Design Brief with the main objectives of the assignment

  • Create UI designs for the seller’s use case of listing an item to sell.

  • Create a series of mobile view wireframes.

  • User has already logged in on the webpage and inserted their payment information.

  • The use case ends when listing has been submitted succesfully.

Things to think about

  • How does the seller identify the product?

  • How to define the condition of the item?

  • How to define the price of the product and how is the commission of XYZ company shown in the price?

  • How to address the buyer's and seller's sense of trust when using the company's website and in a buying/selling situation?

Lapin Reittiopas -projekti

At the end of my master's studies, we did a service design project for VTT and the Arctic Maas project.

The goal of the project was to research and develop ideas to improve the reliability of the Lapland route guide concept. During the project, we used several service design methods, from double diamond to mystery shopping trips and workshop facilitation.

After defining the service path, the target group and identifying various challenges throughout the service path, we as a group developed an application from the Lapland route guide, which would bring together several different public transport booking channels and give advice and tips for a successful trip for the user.

We assigned each member of our group one view of the application, and in addition to this, I did the overview of our presentation slides, as well as the visualizations of the service path sceranrios.

At the end of the project, we presented the research we did, the results we obtained and our development idea to improve the reliability of the Lapland route guide to the customers.

VTT and the Arctic Maas project wrote a blog post about this collaboration, in which you can see the presentations of both groups of the project.

Schedule wall application and interactive surface

During my master's studies, I also participated in a course on interactive design. During the course, we did several exercises and through these we got to know various programs useful in interaction design, such as Canva, Adobe XD and Arduino.

We designed the Schedule wall app with my student friend. The task of the exercise was to plan how the interactive and transparent sticker-like electronics being researched at the university could be used in the future. Our idea was placed especially in a school environment, but also in an office environment, where, for example, a glass door could have an interactive schedule either for someone working in the office or for a class reservation. The interactive schedule wall could be managed with the help of an application that can be installed on the phone.

At the end of that project, the assignment was to present our concept and a video where the concept is in use. While my partner was responsible for the visual appearance of the app and the interactive wall, I created storyboards for us from both the teacher's and the student's perspective and edited the video we shot to show a working interactive screen. The project was my first attempt at video editing and I taught myself how to use Premiere Pro and After Effects for this. I also used Adobe Illustrator for the story boards.
